Animal science is the breeding and caring of animal for specific purposes, such as for their meat, milk and/or fur. Animal science as expanded to now include pets or animals kept by human for amusement and/or companionship.  In a nutshell animal science is all about producing high quality and healthy animals for food and leisure/recreational needs.

Animal science utilizes knowledge mainly of genetics, nutrition, reproduction, microbiology, meat science, physiology, animal behaviour and welfare to achieve its goal. Some areas of specialization in animal science includes; animal breeding and genetics, physiology, animal health and livestock production.

  • Meat Scientist
  • Geneticist
  • Animal Trainer
  • Marine Biologist
  • Veterinarian
  • Animal Behaviourist

If you are a high school student and you want to enter the field of Animal Science study the following subjects listed below:

  • Biology
  • Agriculture Science
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Language subjects such English; this depends on where you want to attend college or university.
  • Physics (it’s a plus)
  • Information Technology (it’s a plus)
